Home Tour: An Austin Creekside Retreat

A 1980s-era house gets a facelift, resulting in a rustic-meets-contemporary home perfect for an active family

Modern design elements keep the home feeling fresh and warm. Touches of structural steel appear at the stringers supporting the floating stair treads, and above the bar where they conceal recessed track lights. Rich mesquite floors that run throughout much of the first floor and extend upstairs unify this large and eclectic project.
An open kitchen provides the perfect family gathering place.
In the backyard, a new covered patio extends along the rear wall of the house, providing covered outdoor seating and dining adjacent to the new pool and spa.

Floating architectural elements such as the open stair treads, suspended steel shelving, wall hung cabinets of the media center, and cantilevered concrete fireplace hearth, can be found throughout the home.
